Movement

The past few months flew away like a hurricane and I cannot even recall what happened since I entered this rollercoaster. Actually the only stable factors have been Scouting and my work. And stable with work is a bit a relative saying here. Because in a stable project all members stay onboarded but here they come and go. Luckily for me I stay.

But next to work the most changes are in my personal situation. Half a year ago, after we broke up, I decided to buy my first house. Easy said but that did have a lot of consequences. I searched for homes in the place I live and neighbouring cities. After I visited at least 10 different homes there was only one that came close to what I requested. So I bid for the house and after some back and forth calls we agreed to a nice price. Then I had to arrange several facilities such as a mortgage. This took quite some time but in the end it was not that difficult at all because of my consultant.

At the same time we were preparing the yearly scoutscamp, we went to Nijmegen. This was a week filled with fun, water, sun and great activities. I really felt energetic again. Also during camp I received a text message that everything for my house was done so I could become the owner.

On the 3th of August I received the keys and up till today I am still busy with some DIY-jobs. I hope to move over soon…

Ninsun parts ways with Stephan and Sander

After summer we rehearsed a lot and worked on new material. Whilst doing this we realized that we all had a different point of view in what we wanted to reach. Also there were some major differences in the idea of how we should create songs and which style we wanted to adept.

After some reflection Sander decided that he did not want to continue. This more or less meant that Stephan also had to quit, because of the distance and not having a drivers license.

This means that only Jasper, Bas and I are left behind, because of our busy schemes we don’t yet know what we are going to do next. But that will be cleared out in future. For now we wish Sander and Stephan the best in their musical careers.

Yours,
Jasper, Bas en Kasper

Autumn has come

It has been a while since my last post and a lot has happened since then. I finished my thesis, we started mixing our demo, visited Crete, went to the Haarlem Jamborette, danced at the Folkwoods festival and enjoyed the Lowlands festival as well. Last but not least I started working. But, first things first.

As you all might know my thesis was about Narrative Generation in the context of tourism. After the application was finished I started working on some experiments. I arranged a few test persons who were willing to test my application. Meanwhile I started writing my thesis. Once there were test results I added them to the thesis and I delivered the first concept. One week afterwards I handed in my final version. On the first of July I had to defend my thesis. I survived and was graduated, I only had to wait till the 22 of September to be allowed to call myself “Master of Science”.

The Saturday after my thesis defence we played as support for Trip Trigger. We had a great show but after we finished I had to go home because I was completely broken.

A few days later I flew with my girlfriend to the wonderful island of Crete. The temperature over there was 30 degrees Celsius, a lot nicer than it was at that point of time in the Netherlands. We stayed there for two weeks and saw most of the island. We rented a car to be more flexible. On our flight back an unpleasant surprise awaited because we were not on the passengers list of our plane, which is very strange indeed. Luckily we were allowed to board 20 minutes before the plane left. (We arrived 3 hours before the plane left)

After the holiday I went, together with 21 other people of my Scouting group, to the Haarlem Jamborette. I will not go into detail here but this were 11 amazing days with a lot of fun, sun, rain and enthusiasm of as well the organisation as well as the participants. I’ve met a lot of nice people from all different countries and everybody was having a great time over there.

My festival season this year was the same as the previous years, which means first the Folkwoods festival and then A Campingflight to Lowlands Paradise. I’ve seen a lot of great artists, a few highlights: Elbow, Within Temptation and Seth Lakeman.

So it has been a very busy summer and that’s not all. The first of September I started working at VLC, a Dutch consulting company in Enterprise Information Management (EIM). I started as a Young Professional in the Young Professional Academy, and in a week from now I’ll be known as a Web Content Management Consultant. So in future there will be slightly more posts on EIM.

Yours.

Last lecture

Yesterday I had my last college on the University of Amsterdam, we needed to present our projects for Intelligent Interactive Systems. The real last lecture we had was the day before yesterday and it had a beautiful conclusion that suits to my study:

“Humans should not become more machine, machines should become more human.”

Ninsun found bass-player

We are thrilled to reveal our latest member. Stephan participated in a few rehearsals last weeks and after a quick view on what we all wanted to play we decided yesterday that Stephan would be the new bass-player of Ninsun!

We now work on completing a setlist so that we can rock!

23

Last week my 23th birthday took place. And then I realized how great that is. Twenty-three and for the first time in my life I thought “next year is the first year of the rest of my life”. Not in a bad way but with joy, I feel that I am ready to take a next step.

But first I will finish my thesis.

Project Intelligent Information Systems: wall of paint

For a course at the University we propose a research to a system called wall of paint. With this system multiple users can together create a painting on a public display. I am currently studying a paper by Müller et al. which is about the requirements for such public displays, how do you make them in such a way that people will be using them?

I will elaborate on this later.

The affair

It is almost impossible to live on the web without having an opinion about everything. Though you need to be careful what you say because from one day to another you are a terrorist like Rop Gonggrijp.
